BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol announced on Saturday that a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist was the result of a smart car that caused the motorcyclist to lose control of the bike on Friday in Merritt Island.
Authorities say the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on S. Tropical Trail, approaching the intersection of Cone Road, when he had to swerve to miss a white smart car was stopped in the intersection when it began to attempt a left turn to travel southbound on S. Tropical Trail.
State troopers say the smart car came into the path of the motorcyclist and caused him to lose control of the bike.
The motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash and has been identified as a 26-year-old man from Ocala.
Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
