WASHINGTON D.C. – During a highly anticipated “Make America Wealthy Again” event, President Donald Trump announced a new set of reciprocal tariffs aimed at reviving the American economy, protecting domestic industries, and creating jobs for American workers.

Speaking from the White House Rose Garden on Wednesday afternoon, Trump addressed an audience that included steelworkers, auto workers, farmers, and skilled tradespeople. “We have a lot of hardworking Americans here with us today who’ve suffered deeply,” he said. “They’ve watched foreign leaders take our jobs, seen our factories dismantled by dishonest trade practices, and witnessed the American dream fade. That dream is making a comeback—just like it did four years ago, and it’s happening again now.”

Trump said the new tariffs would help reduce taxes and pay down the national debt by generating trillions of dollars in revenue. “This marks a turning point,” he said. “America is going to grow stronger than ever. Jobs and factories are already starting to return, and we’re going to supercharge our domestic industries.”

Flanked by members of his Cabinet, Trump used the occasion—his first official Rose Garden event since his January inauguration—to outline his strategy for addressing unfair trade practices.

“For countries that treat us unfairly, we’ll calculate the total impact of their tariffs, trade barriers, and other forms of cheating,” he explained. “Then, in a generous move, we’ll impose tariffs that are about half of what they’re hitting us with. I could’ve gone for full reciprocity, but that would be tough on many of these countries.”

Trump cited specific examples: the European Union will face a 20% tariff, in response to the 39% it places on U.S. goods. Japan will be subject to 24%, compared to the 46% it charges the U.S. Meanwhile, China will face a 34% tariff in response to its 67% rate.

“These actions,” Trump said, “are just the beginning of restoring fairness and prosperity to American workers.”
