An elderly man has died from his injuries after his vehicle drove through the gate at a railroad crossing and was struck by a Florida East Coast Train in Titusville.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – An elderly man has died from his injuries after his vehicle drove through the gate at a railroad crossing and was struck by a Florida East Coast Train in Titusville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that on Tuesday (April 1) James Porter Dickenson, 95, of Titusville, was driving a 2019 Hyundai east on Knox McRae Dr. approaching the intersection of Hopkins Ave.

He drove into the Railroad gates that had dropped down, while the red lights were flashing, and a southbound train was approaching the crossing.

The train struck the vehicle on the driver’s side, spinning it violently.

Police say Dickenson died at the hospital following the crash.

The fatal crash remains under investigation.
