BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA — Merritt Island High School, one of Brevard Public Schools, is now offering hands-on experience to students in astronautics and flight technology with the new Astronautics and Flight Exploration Academy.

The AFEX ribbon-cutting event featured speakers BPS Superintendent Dr. Rendell, School Board Chairman Gene Trent, Senator Debbie Mayfield, and FIT President Dr. Nicklow.

Many other school board members and community partners also gathered to commemorate this significant event.

The AFEX Program provides a gateway to the future of aviation and space careers for high school students. The mission is to cultivate the next generation of leaders, engineers, pilots, and technicians who will drive the advancement of aviation and aerospace.

As a part of AFEX, students will gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge resources, including flight simulators, VR space simulators, drone technology, launch balloons, Mars rover robotics, and speeches and field trips by industry leaders.

The community is excited for this new innovative program that is now available to students.
