3-2-1 Day Is Official: March 21 Named Space Coast Day, New Holiday Honors the Space Coast’s Stellar Legacy

Celebration Honors Region’s Central Role in Space Exploration and Innovation
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — In a celebration of the region’s unmatched legacy in human spaceflight and aerospace innovation, Brevard County leaders have officially designated March 21 as Space Coast Day — a new annual observance recognizing the Space Coast’s pivotal contributions to space exploration and science.
Commissioners will unveil the official proclamation on January 13 at 5 p.m. during a ceremony at the Brevard County Commission office, where community members and space enthusiasts alike are invited to attend. The symbolic event will include a special “countdown moment” that echoes the liftoff sequences that have been the heartbeat of the region for decades.
“Our community embodies excitement, courage, and ingenuity — principles that helped define America’s journey into space,” said officials in announcing the forthcoming celebration, highlighting March 21 as a tribute to 3-2-1 liftoff and Brevard’s central identity as the nation’s premier spaceport.

A Region Built on Rockets and Exploration
Brevard County, long known as Florida’s Space Coast, is home to some of the most historic and active space facilities in the world.
This includes NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island and launch complexes at Cape Canaveral that have sent humans and robotic missions beyond Earth for more than six decades.
From the Apollo missions that carried astronauts to the Moon to Space Shuttle launches and today’s cutting-edge commercial partnerships and Artemis missions aimed at returning humans to the lunar surface, the Space Coast has been at the core of U.S. space ambitions.
The area is also distinguished by its 321 telephone area code, adopted in homage to the classic launch countdown 3…2…1…liftoff, further cementing the region’s cultural identity with spaceflight.
Space Coast Day is designed not just as a ceremonial milestone but also as an ongoing celebration that encourages community engagement, tourism, and inspiration for future generations.
Residents and local organizations are encouraged to plan activities, educational events, and public gatherings to honor the region’s contributions to science and engineering.
In some parts of the county, March 21 already serves as a grassroots community event sometimes referred to as 3-2-1 Day — celebrating Brevard’s history, achievements, and even its unique area code with festivities, local events, food, and music in places like Titusville.
The proclamation event on January 13 will be held at the Brevard County Commission office, with festivities beginning at 5 p.m. Attendees can expect the official reading and signing of the Space Coast Day proclamation, as well as a symbolic space countdown to celebrate.
Space Coast Day will become a tradition that celebrates not only historic achievements but also inspires future generations to pursue careers in science, engineering, and aerospace — continuing a legacy that began on Florida’s coastline and reached for the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
