BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A deadly house fire in Palm Bay early Monday morning claimed the lives of two people, including a child.
Palm Bay Fire Rescue responded around 2:20 a.m. to reports of a structure fire with possible occupants trapped inside a home on Janus Road NE. When crews arrived, they encountered heavy fire conditions throughout the residence and found a woman outside the home.
Fire officials said the woman informed firefighters that a 10-year-old boy and an elderly woman were still inside the house. Crews made multiple attempts to enter the structure, but extreme fire conditions prevented immediate access.
The woman who escaped the home was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to a hospital, according to investigators.
“Palm Bay Fire Rescue wishes to extend its deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones impacted by this tragic loss,” the department said in a news release.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
