Palm Bay Man Dies After Pickup Truck Crashes Into Concrete Pole on S. Harbor City Boulevard in Melbourne

A 65-year-old Palm Bay man has died following a single-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon that prompted a traffic homicide investigation and shut down southbound lanes of a major Melbourne roadway for several hours.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — A 65-year-old Palm Bay man has died following a single-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon that prompted a traffic homicide investigation and shut down southbound lanes of a major Melbourne roadway for several hours.

According to the Melbourne Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 4:19 p.m. on January 29, 2026, to a reported vehicle crash near the intersection of South Harbor City Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue.

Preliminary findings indicate that a black 1998 Ford F-150 traveling southbound on South Harbor City Boulevard left the roadway and struck a concrete pole near the intersection.

The driver, later identified as Randy Dale Turley, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Brevard County Fire Rescue personnel arrived on scene and transported Turley to a Brevard hospital with critical injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, he later succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

As a result of the crash and subsequent investigation, all southbound lanes of South Harbor City Boulevard were closed for several hours, causing significant traffic delays in the area while officers processed the scene and gathered evidence.

The Melbourne Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is leading the ongoing traffic homicide investigation. At this time, investigators have not released information regarding possible contributing factors, such as speed, medical issues, or impairment, as the case remains active.
