COSTA RICA – Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his iconic role as Theo Huxtable on the groundbreaking sitcom The Cosby Show, has died at the age of 54 after a tragic drowning accident in Costa Rica.
According to Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department (OIJ), Warner had been swimming Sunday afternoon at Playa Grande de Cocles, a popular beach destination located in the Caribbean province of Limón. Witnesses reported that Warner was caught in a powerful current that pulled him into deeper waters. Despite rescue efforts, authorities confirmed Warner was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local emergency responders and beachgoers attempted CPR before paramedics arrived, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Warner rose to fame in the 1980s as part of The Cosby Show, one of the most influential television shows in American history. His portrayal of Theo Huxtable, the only son of Cliff and Clair Huxtable, earned him widespread recognition and made him a household name. Throughout his career, Warner also appeared in a variety of television series and films, and was known for his work as a director and spoken word artist.
