A freeze warning has been issued for parts of Central and east central Florida as temperatures are expected to drop to near or below freezing early Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne. The warning is in effect from 1 a.m. – 9 a.m. Friday, January 16.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A freeze warning has been issued for parts of Central and east central Florida as temperatures are expected to drop to near or below freezing early Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

The warning is in effect from 1 a.m. – 9 a.m. Friday, January 16.

Forecasters say low temperatures between 27 and 32 degrees are possible across Lake, Volusia, Seminole, Orange, Osceola, and Okeechobee counties, as well as mainland Brevard County and inland portions of Indian River and St. Lucie counties.

The National Weather Service cautioned that freezing temperatures could cause damage to sensitive vegetation and pose risks to pets and people who are not adequately protected from the cold. Officials are urging residents to take precautions, including protecting tropical plants and annuals, bringing pets indoors, and allowing faucets to drip to help prevent frozen pipes.

Residents are also encouraged to check on elderly neighbors, friends, and family members during the cold overnight hours. The reminder highlights the importance of the four Ps during cold-weather events: people, pets, plants, and pipes.

The freeze warning was updated on Thursday, January 15, and applies to inland areas highlighted by the National Weather Service Melbourne forecast office. Coastal locations may see slightly milder conditions, but inland communities are expected to experience the coldest temperatures.
