BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Rep. Debbie Mayfield has won the Republican primary for the Florida Senate District 19 seat, positioning herself to return to the chamber where she previously served for two terms.

Mayfield, a Republican from Indialantic, emerged victorious over three other candidates in Tuesday’s primary with 60% of the vote. Mark Lightner III received 16.12%, Tim Thomas had 13.36%, and Marcie Adkins had 9.73%.

According to the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections, voter turnout was 21.61%.

Having previously held the District 19 Senate seat until November, Mayfield was required to step down due to term limits. She then won a seat in the Florida House, a chamber where she had already served four terms before her Senate tenure.

Now, she seeks to reclaim her former Senate position in the upcoming general election.

Her path back to the Senate was cleared when Republican Randy Fine, who won her old seat in November, resigned to run for Congress in Florida’s 6th Congressional District.

Fine won that race on Tuesday, while Brian Hodgers won the GOP nomination for Mayfield’s current House seat.

Mayfield will now face Democrat Vance Ahrens in the June 10 general election. The winner will serve the remainder of Fine’s four-year Senate term until November 2028.
