Cause yet to be determined After Fatal Cocoa Beach residential Structure Fire

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA — The investigation continues after authorities identified three people who were inside a Cocoa Beach home when a residential structure fire broke out Friday on West Volusia Lane, leaving one person dead and two others critically injured.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under active investigation by state and local fire marshals working in coordination with the Cocoa Beach Police Department.
Cocoa Beach Police said Julie A. Edwards, a 68-year-old woman, was pronounced dead as a result of the fire.
Robert Stiffler, 69, was taken to the hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit and Robert Millang, 72, remains in critical condition.
The fire was reported at approximately 6 a.m. on January 2, when Cocoa Beach Police and Fire Dispatch received the initial call, prompting a response from the Cocoa Beach Fire Department, with assistance from Brevard County Fire Rescue and Cape Canaveral Fire Rescue.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures and fire investigators said there is currently no indication of foul play or criminal activity as investigators continue to examine the site.
