BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Power & Light customers will see higher electric bills beginning in January as the utility moves forward with a series of rate increases totaling billions of dollars over the next four years.

The company’s plan, which marks the largest rate hike package in its history, will gradually raise monthly costs for households and businesses across the state.

Under the proposal, customers can expect their average bill to rise by about $2.50 in 2026, with additional increases scheduled for 2027, 2028, and 2029. FPL has said the long-term rate adjustments are necessary to support system upgrades and other investments aimed at improving reliability and overall service quality.

Opponents of Florida Power & Light’s multiyear rate increase plan are expected to challenge the decision in the State Supreme Court, setting up what could become a significant legal battle over the utility’s largest proposed hikes in its history.

While FPL maintains that the additional revenue is needed to enhance service quality in the years ahead, the company has not publicly detailed how the higher rates will translate into measurable improvements for customers.
