Hurricane Erin has strengthened into a Category 5 Hurricane with sustained winds of 160 mph as the storm currently travels west over the open Atlantic. The hurricane is not expected to make landfall in Florida, but will produce dangerous surf conditions all along the East Coast of the United States.
Saturday: Erin rapidly intensified into a major hurricane overnight. While Erin is forecast to remain well east of Florida, there will be coastal impacts as incoming large swells arrive next week and produce a HIGH risk of rip currents, rough pounding surf, and hazardous boating conditions. A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Sunny and hot, with a high near 95. South-southwest wind around 5 mph, becoming east in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 40%.
