BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA — A Rockledge Police Department school crossing guard is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while working in a school zone Thursday morning near Golfview Elementary School.

Police said the crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. along South Fiske Boulevard as the crossing guard, an adult woman whose name has not been released, was directing traffic to help students safely cross the roadway. She was hit by a passing vehicle and suffered serious injuries.

Emergency responders transported the crossing guard to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, where she remains in critical condition, according to authorities.

No students were hurt during the incident, and police confirmed that the driver involved stayed at the scene. However, investigators have not released information about what led up to the crash or whether any charges are pending.

In a statement posted Thursday afternoon, the Rockledge Police Department said its focus remains on the injured employee and her family.

“At this time, the Department is focused on our employees’ recovery and assisting their families,” the agency said.

The incident remains under investigation.
