Mustangs claimed district title over the Commodores in dominating fashion

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – As the 2025 baseball season comes to an end, multiple teams across the county claimed district titles and will be headed to the FHSAA state playoffs. 

EAU GALLIE VS MERRITT ISLAND

Meeting for the fifth time this season, Eau Gallie and Merritt Island met in the 4A District 13 Championship. With the season series tied at 2-2, this matchup was a ‘winner-take-all’ game, and the Mustangs claimed the district title over the Commodores in dominating fashion, 12-1.

With the win, the Mustangs moved to 21-6 on the year, securing the No. 2 seed in the upcoming FHSAA State tournament. Merritt Island will host Suncoast High School in the best-of-three series starting Monday, April 21, at 7 p.m.

With the loss, the Commodores fell to 19-7 on the season but still secured the 3-seed in the FHSAA State tournament. Eau Gallie will host the best-of-three series against Belen Jesuit, with the first pitch coming Monday, April 21, at 7 p.m.

COCOA BEACH VS. JOHN CARROLL CATHOLIC

The Cocoa Beach Minutemen improved their win total by five games from the 2024 season. But after a strong 15-9 season, Cocoa Beach fell last night to John Carroll Catholic 5-0 in the 2A District 8 Championship.

VIERA VS. MELBOURNE

The Viera Hawks finished up their regular season with a 6A District 7 Championship victory over the Melbourne Bulldogs. Coming up clutch in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Hawks pushed across two runs to win the game in dramatic fashion. With the win, Viera moved to 18-9 on the season and looks ahead to the FHSAA State tournament, as they will host Dwyer High School.

The first game in the best-of-three series starts Wednesday, April 23, at 7 p.m. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 17-8 on the season. However, they still secured the 4-seed in the FHSAA tournament. Melbourne will travel to face Lake Minneola in a best-of-three series starting on Wednesday, April 23, at 7 p.m.

ASTRONAUT VS. TITUSVILLE

Astronaut defeated Space Coast and then their rivals, Titusville, 12-9, to win the 3A District 8 Championship. With the victory, Astronaut moved to 8-13 on the season and earned a bid into the FHSAA State tournament. The War Eagles will head to South Sumter High School for a best-of-three series starting Monday, April 21, at 7 p.m.
