As a freshman, Alex Sosa started 30 of 35 games for the Wolfpack and batted well, sending six over the fence and accumulating 24 RBIs. This season Sosa has improved tremendously with four homeruns and 20 RBIs through 24 games played. Besides solid batting, Sosa’s catching has been key for NC State’s 17-7 record, so far. No matter if you play at the highest division, playing collegiate sports is a dream come true for many athletes. The journey of each student-athlete will be an inspiration of the next generation to come! BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – As the baseball season unfolds, let’s highlight some student-athletes competing at the next level. From North Brevard to South Brevard, talent shines across the Space Coast, inspiring the next generation as they watch local athletes thrive in college and chase their professional dreams.

EAU GALLIE:

Class of 2022

DeAmez Ross/JR/OF/UCF- In his first two years in Tallahasse at Florida State University, Ross played in 84 games, starting 35 of 36 games his freshman season. Over his two seasons as a Seminole, Ross put four balls over the fence and tallied 36 RBIs. After two seasons Ross decided to come closer to home and transferred to the University of Central Florida. Thus far, Ross has 14 RBIs with one homerun while back .367 through 23 games!

Class of 2023

Riley Jackson/SO/C/Houston- Out of High school, Jackson attended Florida State University where he would play in nine games and total seven at-bats. Following his freshman season, Jackson transferred to the University of Houston where he is currently the starting catcher for the cougars. Through 21 games this season, Jackson has homered four times and has eight RBIs to show for.

MERRITT ISLAND:

Class of 2023

Kide Adetuyi/RS-FR/P/Florida Atlantic- Adetuyi underwent surgery during the off season and sat out for the 2024 campaign. So far in 2025 Adetuyi has appeared in nine games pitching 5.2 innings and credited with one win. The Owls have put together a very solid 19-5 record through this season and look to achieve win 20 against Florida Gulf Coast today in Fort Myers!

Class of 2024

Nick Wimberly/FR/P/Florida Atlantic- Wimberly joined his former Meritt Island teammate Kide Adetuyi at Florida Atlantic out of high school. In his freshman season so far, Wimberly has appeared in four games pitching 4.2 innings and putting away eight batters. With an ERA under 4 Wimberly has a respectable start to his college career to work off of.

ROCKLEDGE:

Class of 2024

Bryce Turner/FR/P/Florida International- The 6’7 right-handed pitcher chose FIU out of high school. Turner has been on the mound three occasions this season for the Panthers and struck out five total in three innings pitched. Just a freshman, Turner has a lot of room for growth over the next several years. The Panthers have earned a respectable 16-9 record this season and face Florida foe Bethune Cookman today in Daytona Beach.

BAYSIDE:

Class of 2021

Brian Walters/RS-JR/P/Miami- Walters stayed local and attended Eastern Florida State College from Bayside. After quality play in his time with the Titans, Walters would join the Hurricanes at the University of Miami. In 2023, Walters appeared twice before having season-ending surgery, then recorded 22 strikeouts with only two walks over 13.2 innings in 2024. This season Walters is 2-1 in six games, sending away 35 batters over 27 total innings.

VIERA:

Class of 2022

Edian Espinal/JR/INF/UCF- Espinal spent his first two seasons at top junior college Chipola College in Florida. After impressing at Chipola, Espinal transferred to the University of Central Florida where he has impressed once again. In 21 games this season, Espinal has four home runs, 21 runs batted in and most impressively a .479 batting average.

Class of 2024

Camden Wicker/SO/P/UCF- Out of High school, Wicker took his talents to Wofford College in South Carolina. In 17 games, Wicker started ten of those and totaled a 4-3 win/loss record. Over 75 innings Wicker struck out 57 batters! After a solid freshman campaign Wicker has come back home and is now pitching at the University of Central Florida. In three appearances Wicker has pitched 3.2 innings and sent home 7 batters.
