TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – In the wake of Thursday’s deadly shooting at Florida State University, Governor Ron DeSantis has ordered all flags in the state to be flown at half-staff in memory of the victims and in recognition of the bravery shown by first responders.
The directive applies to all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Florida. Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Monday, April 21, 2025.
On April 17, a gunman opened fire on the FSU campus, killing two people and injuring five others. The shooting triggered a large emergency response and prompted a campus-wide lockdown. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the victims or the motive.
In his directive, DeSantis acknowledged the lives lost in the tragedy and praised the swift and courageous actions of law enforcement and emergency personnel.
“The entire state grieves for those impacted by this senseless act of violence,” the statement read.
Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the incident. Counseling services and support resources have been made available to students, faculty, and staff affected by the tragedy.
