BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In a dramatic turn of events, a campaign worker for Congressional District 6 candidate Josh Weil was arrested for burglary and theft, sparking political controversy as State Senator Randy Fine criticized his opponent’s association with the suspect.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies took 35-year-old Arlecia Darnae Brown into custody after responding to a report of a suspicious person inside the fenced yard of a vacant home in Palm Coast.
Brown, who was actively distributing campaign fliers for Weil at the time of her arrest, matched the description of a suspect involved in the theft of a bicycle in the same neighborhood the previous night. Upon her arrest, law enforcement discovered that Brown was carrying two Florida driver’s licenses that did not belong to her, as well as burglary tools.
The investigation into the theft began on March 6, when a victim contacted the FCSO Communications Center to report her child’s bicycle stolen from an open garage.
Security footage allowed detectives to quickly identify a suspect, and a tip from a concerned citizen led deputies to locate the stolen bicycle behind a tool shed on the vacant property.
Brown now faces multiple charges, including Burglary of an Occupied Structure, Theft from a Dwelling, two counts of Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification Information of Another Person, and Possession of Burglary Tools. She was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and is being held on a $67,500 bond.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly emphasized the importance of community vigilance in preventing crime. “This is a perfect example of a crime of opportunity. I encourage all residents to stay vigilant, lock their doors, and report suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately,” Staly stated.
He also credited the combination of thorough detective work and concerned citizens for the swift resolution of the case.
Brown has a significant criminal record, including 14 previous misdemeanor charges and 15 prior felony charges. Among her felony convictions are Robbery with a Firearm, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

These revelations led State Senator Randy Fine to condemn his political opponent, asserting that Josh Weil’s campaign was “literally employing violent felons to go door-to-door on behalf of the campaign.”
As the arrest continues to draw public scrutiny, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact the congressional race.
In the press conference, Fine also questioned Weil’s history and his motives if he were to be elected, citing his X comments made after becoming a candidate for office. “I promise to make a huge scene when I’m sworn-in on the Quran. There is no god rightfully worshiped at all in existence, except Allah.”
“Voters in Florida’s 6th Congressional District deserve to know the truth about Josh Weil’s campaign and his own troubling past,” said the Fine campaign. “The recent arrest of a Weil campaign staffer is just the latest example of a disturbing pattern. Randy Fine outlined the facts and call on Josh Weil to take responsibility for the company he keeps and his own radical history.”
Senator Fine’s remarks suggest that the controversy may become a focal point in the political battle between the two candidates, adding another layer of tension to an already heated campaign.
